Let’s call them the DSP50x unit. The DSP50x has the same features as the D/A Converter counterpart, the DAC50x. Only, the DSP50x has a digital output instead of an analog one. This allows to connect a separate D/A Converter to the DSP50x or to use it to feed active speakers with digital inputs.

More and more highend speaker models are active, i.e. have built-in amplifiers and some of them even sport digital inputs in order to keep the number of A/D and D/A conversions in the signal chain at a minimum. For such a speaker the DSP50x is the ideal front-end. It is Roon Ready and thus supports playback directly from a NAS or via Internet streaming (Tidal, Qobuz, radio) or from a computer etc. USB and S/PDIF and AES/EBU inputs are there as well. The DSP50x plus an active speaker makes for a minimalistic system with a great sound and all the features needed.

The Digital Signal Processing (DSP) features include a room equalizer to get rid of room modes, a creative equalizer (tone control), a Vinyl emulator for that nice vintage sound, an algorithm to keep the playback volume at a constant level for night time listening, a crosstalk cancelling program for a new live-like listening experience. More algorithms are in development, including some exclusively for headphone based playback.

Speaking of headphones - the DSP50x sports two outputs with two separate DSP signal chains. This allows to select output #1 for speaker based playback and switch over to output #2 for headphone based playback. Both outputs using different DSP algorithms.

The following DSP algorithms are currently implemented or implemented soon:

  • Room Equalizer - to suppress room modes for a decent bass reproduction.

  • Creative Equalizer - a tone control with low boost/cut, high boost/cut and mid boost/cut. Very useful to correct those recordings which do not quite sound right.

  • De-Essing - the automatic removal of overly bright sibilances from human voices. The sibilance effect can be more or less pronounced depending on your speakers or room acoustics.

  • Constant Volume - adjusts the audio volume (loudness) to a constant value across all tracks played. Useful for "party mode" when the volume control should stay untouched.

  • Vinyl Emulation - get that special sonic character of a record player based playback chain. We also employ an emulation of the DMM-CD procedure offered by the Stockfisch label.

  • Crosstalk Cancelling (XTC) - for the playback of dummy head recordings or live recordings via speakers for an incredible live sensation. Dummy head recordings usually are listened to via headphones because they only work properly if the left channel goes to the left ear only and the right channel to the right ear only. With speakers this is difficult to achive as the left channel goes to the left and the right ear. But with some clever signal processing of the speaker channels is is possible to suppress the crosstalk, i.e. the audio going from the left speaker to the right ear and vice versa. If that works properly then the recording sounds as if one would be in the space where the recording has taken place. All the reverberation and 3D representation of the sound sources is there.(For speaker based playback only.)

  • Loudness Control - a listening volume dependent equalization of the audio.

  • Headphone Equalizer - to adapt any headphone to the listener's ears in terms of frequency response.

Το χιλιάρικο διαφορά μεταξύ των δύο είναι αποκλειστικά για το πλήρους μεγέθους σασί του 502.

Μου φαίνεται πολύ ακριβό σε σχέση με το minidsp SHD. Από συνδεσιμότητα δεν έχει τρομερές διαφορές αν εξαιρέσεις τα ακουστικά για όποιον ενδιαφέρεται. Για το DSP δεν καταλαβαίνω από τις περιγραφές αν και γιατί υπερτερεί του dirac. Έχει 4 outputs (σε στέρεο) αλλά δεν καταλαβαίνω αν μπορείς να κάνεις cross over. Φαντάζομαι ότι θα μπορείς αλλιώς ποιο το νόημα των 4 εξόδων; Είναι τόσο καλύτερο για να είναι στην 3πλάσια τιμή;
