Και εγω !! Με τα 10 Focal JMlab Demo Discs / Flac εχω εντυπωσιαστει !
Συνοπτικα θα πω οτι ακουω την μουσικη και ξεχναω τα ηχεια !

γενικότερα μιλώντας για τα 801, επειδή τα έχω κι εγώ και ψάχτηκα για το bass alignement filter, παραθέτω μια απάντηση που έλαβα από κάποιον που το έχει ψάξει λίγο παραπάνω, δεδομένου ότι κατασκεύαζε αντίστοιχα φιλτρα:

Good to know that you're also owning the legendary 801 from the Matrix series. However, please do note that there were quite a many changes that took place between the Matrix 801 series-2 which John Bowers launched in Aug/Sept 1987 and the Matrix 801 series-3 that were John Dibb's work in 1993. And between the series-2 and 3, we also have the Anniversary model of 1991 when B&W was celebrating their 25th (Silver) Anniversary.


The changes are as follows :


1. Matrix 801 series-2

a. The passive crossover is a 4th Order Bessel alignment having 24 dB per octave slope.

b. With an Active Bass alignment filter of Q = 2, the 4th Order Bessel becomes a 6th Order Butterworth with 36 dB per octave slope. This allows almost an additional octave of bass to come thru, extending the bass response from 37 Hz of the 4th Order Bessel to 20 Hz of the 6th Order Butterworth. And since the decay slope is now a very sharp 36 dB per octave, any ringing or flabby bass is instantaneously knocked out, leaving the speaker system to freely go down to 20 Hz in the room.

c. However, the downside was that 1 or 2 of the inductors in the crossover having ferrite cores would saturate, hence APOC protection circuitry can/would kick in pre-maturely and restrict high SPL playback.

2. Matrix 801 Anniversary

a. The huge single PCB crossover from the series-2 was still retained but the 2 ferrite core inductors were repositioned, thereby cancelling any inter-related nuisance that was earlier being created and curbing the over playback SPLs.

b. The Mid/treble Head assembly earlier mounted on a very long bolt that was screwed down to the top of the bass cabinet is now removed and the Head assembly is permanently fixed.

c. The orientation of the bi-wiring speaker binding posts on the back cap is also changed to top & bottom whereas earlier, it was all in a horizontal straight line.

d. The crossover alignment is still 4th Order Bessel as default and would be a 6th Order Butterworth upon using the Active Bass alignment filter, thereby truly extending the bass.

e. The APOC protection system is now defeated and no longer in existence although early Anniversary models did have the Red LED positioned just above the bass port in the front (but would never light up as its not connected). This allowed more power to be pushed into the speaker thus could play louder.


3. Matrix 801 series-3

a. The crossover now was totally changed, with independent PCBs for the Bass and Mid/treble.

b. The alignment is now 4th Order Butterworth as default (not Bessel as earlier versions).

c. The APOC protection circuitry is non-existent.

d. The Head assembly is permanently fixed and cannot be rotated.

e. The Bass driver assembly’s basket is no longer the steel one, it’s a lighter one made of magnesium, thus the driver on the overall is lighter in weight.

f. No LED in the front anymore.

g. The bass response is slightly changed with couple of Hz more capable now (32 Hz) than that of the earlier model’s default Bessel bass alignment of 37 Hz.

h. The speakers can play much louder now.

4. CONCLUSIONActive Bass alignment is no longer necessary as per B&W. You unpack the speakers and use it in its default state. If the Active Bass alignment is attached, the crossover being 4th Order Butterworth is now thrown out of alignment and does not truly become a 6th Order Butterworth. Hence – active bass alignment should not be used with this version.
(Many who use it do complain that the Active bass alignment filter is lousy. But it’s not the filter’s fault. The crossover has been re-designed so there’s no more any use of the filter).

Τι να πω !? Στα διαφορα reviews που εχω κοιταξει το θεωρουν απαραιτητο για την πληρη αποδοση
του ηχειου (οπως και την βαση του) και μιλαω παντα για τα S3.
Και το manual προτεινει την χρηση του....
Μαλλον πρεπει κα γινουν μερικες δοκιμες σε καποια φαση...

Το βασικο προβλημα μου τωρα ειναι να βρω καπως πιο αξιοπρεπη rca και ισως καλωδια ηχειων.
Βασικα θελω 3 rca - απο ενα βυσμα σε δυο χ3 για την διενισχυση και δεν εχω βρει καλο ανταπτορα-διακλαδωτηρα (εχω κατι των 2 ευρω),ετσι σκεφτομαι custom καλωδια.

Αν καποιος εχει καποια ιδεα - συμβουλη καλοδεχουμενες !

Ενας hifας κοντα στο σπιτι μου μου ειπε για 270 ευρω με κατι πορτοκαλι van den hul (d102 mkiii )
7,8 μετρα ( 1,3 χ2 χ3) . Δεν θυμαμε με ποια βυσματα .

Το φιλτρο εχει μπει πισω στην θεση του (και εκει θα μεινει )
