The HD DVD format will be dead in months. So proclaims Peter Dille, Sony Computer Entertainment’s VP of PS3 marketing. Speaking to game site gamasutra at the E3 Expo, he dismissed Blu-ray’s rival and rounded on the Xbox 360. “With the Xbox 360 you’ve got an inconsistent design, and none of them have Blu-Ray; HD-DVD will be out of business in a matter of months, and it doesn’t even work.”

Xbox chief Peter Moore naturally disagrees: “I was just looking at HD-DVD numbers over the weekend and I think Toshiba may have an opinion about that. Of course, the fact that Sony has an economic interest in making sure that it’s dead is interesting. I think his comments will be read with interest by folks in the European Union, (which is) looking at the tactics the Blu-Ray forum has been using to ensure that retailers do things their way. Let’s just look at what happens this holiday. I think it’s kind of a preposterous statement.”
