First test: Sony VPL-VW760 - finally the first results!
Contrast
Even the entry level model VW260 offers a native contrast of 13,000: 1 to 18,000: 1, so our September forecast between 10,000: 1 and 20,000: 1 was very conservative. And here we were not disappointed: With deactivated laser dimming, the first VW760 achieved a contrast ratio between 15,000: 1 and 20,000: 1 after calibration (gross: 18,000: 1 to 23,000: 1). Combined with a checkerboard contrast of 360: 1, the VW760 offers outstanding image depth, the dynamic range of which can be increased to 30,000: 1 to 60,000: 1 with the addition of laser dimming. This is a moderate measure that prevents annoying image pumping.
Farbraum
With only a slight reduction in red and green, the native color space of the VPL-VW760 achieves a very good DCI coverage and can be classified as a kind of "UHD Premium". The really good news: He achieves this color space completely without light-reducing DCI filter, so it retains its full 1700 to 1800 calibrated lumens. Especially in connection with our otpimierten dynamic HDR setup reaches the 760er HDR brilliance, as we know otherwise only from the VW5000 ago.
