H ανωτερότητα των προδιαγραφών της 881, επιβεβαιώνεται και από τον... VAN DEN HUL, σε συνέντευξή του προς τον Atkinson (ναι του "STEREOPHILE"):

"A.J. Van Den Hul: Going Dutch By John Atkinson and Thomas J. Norton • December, 1986

Atkinson: Are you saying, then, that in general this is something to which cartridge manufacturers haven't paid a great deal of attention?

Van Den Hul:"Three things are very important in cartridge design. I would say first to have very low tracking force, so that you can retrieve on the next play what you retrieved the previous time. Second, to have very high channel separation. And third, to have enough output."

Stantons tick yes to all three points.

μεγάλη παράληψή μου να μήν σχολιάσω το εκπληκτικό αφιέρωμά σου και ζητώ συγνώμη.Εγώ ειδικά, ως πρώην πιά, κάτοχος της 881S.
Παρ'όλο που τέτοιου είδους προσπάθειες είναι αξιοζήλευτες, γιατί δείχνουν όλο το πάθος και το μεράκι ενός πραγματικού ερασιτέχνη, λειτουργούν στο υποσυνείδητο σαν δεδομένο(αν είναι δυνατόν!!), αλλά και απο κεκτημένη ταχύτητα, μερικές φορές περνούν στο ντούκου και χωρίς σχολιασμό, γιατί απλά σ'αφήνουν άφωνο.Αυτό βέβαια δεν αποτελεί δικαιολογία στην περίπτωσή μου, κάθε άλλο.Απλά μιά ερμηνεία είναι. Σου εύχομαι απο καρδιάς, να βρείς τη δύναμη να κάνεις κι'άλλο αφιέρωμα, σε άλλο αντικείμενο για να το απολαύσουμε.Μακάρι να μπορούσα να το κάνω κι'εγώ.Ομως φίλε μου είναι τόσο επίπονο κι'εσύ το γνωρίζεις καλύτερα απ'όλους!

Eδώ σας παρουσιάζω κάποιον "hifiντελά", ο οποίος αφού πλέκει το εγκώμιο μιας mc κεφαλής, της Dynavector Karat 17D2, (αξία σε καινούργια:περίπου 600 € γύρω στο 2005), λέγοντας, σε μία άμεση σύγκριση με την 881, πως είναι καλύτερη η Dynavector, (είναι και πιο μοδάτη βλέπετε καθότι χρυσαφί και moving coil), τελικά ομολογεί πως η 881 είναι πιο μουσική και του αρέσει καλύτερα να ακούει με αυτήν!:

Λέει ο O'SHAG:

"The Alphason HR100S is a bargain. The arm is pure titanium, and is meticulously engineered to very high tolerances. If sold today (Alphason stopped making these a long time ago), it would be at least $3000. The Stanton 881S MM cartridge an older model, can't really compete with decent moving coil designs. Its a little coloured and unable to retrieve the same level of micro / macro dynamic detail, and lacks the same transient speed/accuracy. However, it is ' musical' and tremendous fun, - at its best was capable of putting me in the room with the performers and audience(ΥΠΟΓΡΑΜΜΙΣΗ ΔΙΚΗ ΜΟΥ) (a lot of this has to do with the Alphason and my phonostage though) . Its high output means it can be driven with a wide variety of phonostages. My current cartridge, the Dynavector Karat 17D2, is well-regarded, but I still commend the sound of the Stanton, even given it is well out-classed by the 17D2. "

Τελικά, "ας βάλουμε τα πράγματα στην θέση τους" ΜΚ IV:

881S και XSV 3000, δεν είναι ΑΚΡΙΒΩΣ ίδιες, με την PICKERING να υστερεί ελάχιστα λόγω έλλειψης calibration.

Λέει ο πρώην μηχανικός της STANTON Nf Albert απαντώντας σε σχετική ερώτηση:


"Hi Dave,

To answer your first question about the stanton compensating for end rise which the Pickering did not-YES and NO.

The Yes part:
The 881S was followed the 4500Q & XSV/3000 were brought to market to keep the Stanton line supplied with the later technology. However, typically previous high end Stanton cartidges were individually calibrated on the production line and the customer supplied
with a declaration of frequency repsponse and individual channel output.

While the XSV/3000 was a great sounding cartridge, it had a subtle bump of the frequency
response between 7-14KHz which, while giving the unit a warm sound which customers
and reviewers responded to very favorably, it also made it difficult to maintain the very strict
frequency response that many Stanton customers such in the record engineering and production (lacquer masters, matrix mothers,stampers, etc) to verify their quality control.

Therefore the result was a modifcation to the stylus assembly, using a light magnet and shorter cantilever, which had the effect of pushing the cantilever resonance to a substantially higher frequency, although still below 20kHz. Then this high end rie could be easily compenated by incorporating a cartridge with high inductance which, when loaded
with the, then nominal, 270pF, would act as a filter to flatten the response o that the product could be jutifiably called a "Calibration Standard."

The NO part:

The XSV/3000 should not be looked at as inferior, but just a (slightly) different beast
which sounded great but didn't fulfill a particalar requirement of a different market.
Generally, the XSV/3000 had a well damped cantilver resonance which didn't require
any L/C filering for normal listening purposes."
