William Fichtner talks Shredder in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Following his role as the antagonist in The Lone Ranger, it won't be long until we see William Fichtner as another bad guy when he shows up as Shredder in the upcoming Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot. Speaking with The Hollywood News, Fichtner talked about his character, who will be a little different than fans know him.

"What I read about Eric Sachs in the script was great, and then how the character has been moulded and changed when we started filming has become something really quite remarkable in terms of what we’ve seen before of the character."

Fichtner also thinks that fans will be blown away by the new turtles in the film, saying: “They are some messed up mutant turtles!”

Fans will be disappointed to learn that Fichtner also confirmed longtime favorites Bebop and Rocksteady will not be present for the film. Perhaps in a sequel?

William Fichtner reveals a lot more on Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles

Yesterday we brought you some quotes from actor William Fichtner about his role of Shredder in the upcoming Teenage Mutant NInja Turtles reboot, and even a brief tease on the design of the Turtles. Now the actor has revealed even more about the project, including more details on his character as well as potential future films.

"It always had sort of a bouncy cartoon feel to me, which is great, that's why it was appealing," he said in an interview with Flicks and the City. "That's not this movie....It's not like any Mutant NInja Turtles thing you've ever seen before. It's freaky, they're cool, and they're mutants and they look awesome. It's tough and it's going to be really, really great."

Fichtner was then asked about his character, and alluded to what will likely be some controversial changes from the mythos.

"Well I play a guy named Eric Sachs and we find out that Eric Sachs is somebody else too. I can't give away too much in the story but I can tell you that who Shredder is in the telling of this Turtles is unlike any telling of the story before. His connection and relationship to the turtles is a bit surprising and for an actor playing it, the backstory, which comes out in this film, is really intriguing...We made some changes while filming that I thought are just awesome."

The conversation then turned to Shredder's look in the film, which Fichtner seems to indicate will be mostly similar to the classic look.

"Shredder dons himself with armor, and that's who he is and that happens in this story. It's the backstory on how it all began with the turtles, that the character of Eric Sachs....it's not by chance that he knows the Turtles."

And what about sequels? Fichtner thinks the franchise could be around for a while.

"Do I think you're going to see another one? I think you're going to see a few of them."

When asked specifically if he would return for a sequel he revealed:

"Well I signed a three picture thing, so I'll see what happens."

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles adds Johnny Knoxville and Tony Shalhoub!

Breaking just one week after the debut of the film's first trailer is the news (arriving today via Deadline) that Paramount Pictures has added the voice talents of both Johnny Knoxville (Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, The Last Stand) and Tony Shalhoub ("Monk," Pain & Gain) to the cast of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Knoxville will voice Leonardo while Shalhoub will be providing the voice of Master Splinter. The characters are performed by Pete Ploszek and Danny Woodburn, respectively.
