Οι Your Hand In Mine ειναι μια ελληνικη μπαντα της οποιας η ιστορια ξεκινησε οταν εγραψαν το soundtrack για τη βωβή ταινία του Mikio Naruse “Υogoto Νo Υume” ή αλλιώς “Every Night Dreams”, που είναι και ο τίτλος του δίσκου.

Skalpel​

Skalpel are nu jazz DJs and musicians, Marcin Cichy and Igor Pudło, from Wrocław in Poland. Their musical style is a distinctive blend of hip hop beats, laced with samples lifted from the rich seam of Polish jazz records of the 1960s and 1970s. In 2000, after interviewing DJ Vadim for a Polish hip hop magazine, Skalpel discussed samples, obscure breaks and the Polish music scene with him. That led to a combined tour with Skalpel and Vadim's live band, The Russian Percussion, during which they performed with four turntables. Later that year, Skalpel released a demo CD entitled "Polish Jazz", which gained praise in from the Polish music press, and they were subsequently picked up by the UK independent record label, Ninja Tune.

In 2001, they released the "Virtual Cuts" mixtape, which was composed of two live sessions. Between 2002 and 2004, five of their live DJ mix sets were aired on Ninja Tune's Solid Steel radio show.

Skalpel aim to resurrect the spirit of 60s and 70s Polish jazz, using samples to re-work it.

Wim Mertens

Mertens studied social and political science at the University of Leuven (graduating in 1975) and musicology at Ghent University; he also studied music theory and piano at the Royal Conservatories of Ghent and Brussels.

In 1978, he became a producer at the then BRT (Belgian Radio and Television, now called Vlaamse Radio- en Televisieomroep). For Radio 2 (Radio Brabant) he produced concerts by Philip Glass, Steve Reich, Terry Riley, Meredith Monk, Urban Sax and others, and hosted a program called Funky Town together with Gust De Meyer (with whom he recorded the experimental CD For Amusement Only).

Known primarily as a composer since the late 1970s, Mertens is best known for his opus "Struggle for Pleasure". He is also well known for his piece "Maximizing the Audience", which was composed for Jan Fabre's play The Power of Theatrical Madness, which premiered in 1984 in Venice, Italy.

Mertens' style has continually evolved during the course of his prolific career, starting from downright experimental and avant-garde, always gravitating around minimalism, usually, however, preserving a melodic foundation to the forays that he makes into the worlds that he is exploring. His compositional quality has often overweighted the "labelling issue" and reached wider audiences although stemming from a far-from-mainstream musical context (see section In popular culture).

Mertens has released more than 50 albums to date, the majority of which were issued by Les Disques du Crépuscule from 1980 until 2004. Mertens also produced a number of Crépuscule releases and consulted with the label on its choice of works by contemporary composers such as Michael Nyman, Gavin Bryars, and Glenn Branca. Mertens also curated a series of releases for a Crépuscle imprint, Lome Armé, that featured works from the classical era as well as contemporary jazz.

Mertens' music was used in the 1987 Peter Greenaway film The Belly of an Architect, along with that of Glenn Branca also in the Dutch-British film Shadow Man (1988), directed by Piotr Andrejew, as well as in the Brazilian documentary Nós que Aqui Estamos por Vós Esperamos (Here We Are Waiting for You).

Mertens is the author of American Minimal Music,[1] which looks at the school of American repetitive music.

In March 1998 Mertens became the Cultural Ambassador of Flanders.

Mertens can be heard on the CD Indeterminate Activity of Resultant Masses of Glenn Branca, which published an interview of Mertens with John Cage.

In August 2007 Mertens signed a contract with EMI Classics for his entire catalog.[2] The label has prepared an ambitious re-release plan of his back-catalog which will start in January 2008. His "oeuvre intégrale" will be made available digitally and worldwide. But first EMI Music Belgium released Mertens' newest (51st) 9-track album Receptacle on September 24, 2007. For this album Mertens decided to work with an orchestra consisting of only women, 17 in total. It is not the first time that Mertens has worked together with EMI. Already in 1999 Mertens released the soundtrack to the Paul Cox film Father Damien via EMI Classics.

New work released in 2008 includes the CD L'heure du loup which, similar to some of his experimental works, contains a series of tracks based on one work, the previously released Hors nature. Mertens also released a box set of six volumes from his live Years Without History series, the sixth volume of which (The Promise Kept in Advance) is only available with the box set. A seventh volume, Nosotros, was also released in 2008. It contains a recording from July 2002 at the Kasteeldomein van Gaasbeek in Belgium, the live premiere of material that would later be released on the Skopos CD.

The Belly of an Architect is a 1987 film drama written and directed by Peter Greenaway, featuring original music by Glenn Branca and Wim Mertens.

The movie stars Brian Dennehy and Chloe Webb and contains numerous references to the work of the 18th century French architect Étienne-Louis Boullée. It was nominated for the Palme d'Or (Golden Palm) award at the 1987 Cannes Film Festival.

Wim Μertens !!!!! To συγκεκριμένο cd το έχω κάτι μήνες και δεν χορταίνω να το ακούω.

Σήμερα το μενού έχει Quincy Jones and the Boys από τα πρώτα βήματα που Quincy Jones στη jazz μουσικής πριν ασχοληθεί με pop κομμάτια με την ορχήστρα του που την ονομάζει and the boys

καλα ενταξει ο δισκος αυτος σπερνει

ενα και ενα ολα τα κομματια του, γενικα οι Κανσας ειναι απο τα ποιοτικοτερα προγκ ροκ συγκροτηματα που εχουν βγει

Φαιδρα τσεκαρε και τους Proto-Kaw, εχουν βγαλει 3 δισκους, και ειναι η συνθεση των Κανσας πριν δισκογραφησουν (Ηδη στο πρωτο αλμπουμ ολοι ειχαν φυγει εκτος του Κερυ Λιβγκρεν). Πριν καποια χρονια αποφασισαν να κυκλοφορησουν/επανηχογραφησουν οτι ντεμο ειχαν γραψει απο τοτε, και μετα εβγαλαν και αλλα δυο υπερ-ποιοτικα αλμπουμ, παντα σε συνθεση Κερυ Λιβγκρεν. Ουσιαστικα ειναι Κανσας των '00ς.

Vrioon is a 2002 collaboration between Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto. Characterized by an unusual experimental sound (a sound which Sakamoto and Noto will experiment also in Insen in 2005), it weaves an electronic minimalism spreading a very little amount of notes during the songs. The album was elected among the first 50 albums of 2003 by magazine The Wire[1]. Also named album of the year in 2004 by The Wire magazine.

Review:
Ryuichi Sakamoto's restless 25-year career has seen sorties onto the soil of Cage, Devo, Kraftwerk, Eno, Varese, Debussy. Never a dull or definitive moment. His Yellow Magic Orchestra were, for a few songs at least, one of the most brilliant electronic pop groups of the late-’70s, and a huge influence on early techno. The Yes-like pomp of the live album After Service may not have been YMO's finest hour, but the crowds heard gleefully cheering thereupon shared their enthusiasm with contemporaries like Gary Numan and, a little later, Cybotron. In recent years, Sakamoto's prepared piano superseded pop inclinations, for the most part to continued acclaim. Today he supplies instrumental music for films or for dreaming to; the line on albums like 1999's BTTB (Sony Classical) is that they're serene and pretty, but much less adventurous than those of 15 or 20 years ago.

alva noto, or just noto, is Carsten Nicolai, the German producer whose noton.archiv fuer ton und nichtton (English: "the noton archive of tones and non-tones") fused with Frank Bretschneider's Raster imprint in 1999 to form Raster-Noton. Part conventional record label, part launching pad for more involved ventures (including the 12-CD series 20 to 2000 and three books of theory by Nicolai), Raster-Noton has in its brief existence amassed a fantastic catalogue of sound experiments by Thomas Brinkmann, Kim Cascone, noto, and COH, as well as the venerable tape-loop wizard William Basinski.

Raster-Noton's 50th release is Vrioon, a collaboration that blends Sakamoto's airy piano with alva noto's nearly silent hums and whirs. In tandem they recall the pre-punch line segment of "let's see who can hit the softest."

alva noto's pencil-thin tones – purist sounds with not an ounce of fat on them – stood alone on Transform (Mille Plateaux, 2001). These sounds, among the most fundamental imaginable, are why that record was intrepid – lonely amplified currents played solitary on the stereo, fending for themselves. Ditto with the Endless Loop (e, f, g, h) disc, on which an extra hole is drilled off-center on the vinyl, so that each fraction of sound can be heard either conventionally or warped. SND are My Bloody Valentine in comparison.

Vrioon places the same sort of minimalism in a very different context. You almost had to tune out Transform to enjoy it, it so filled with absence, but with Sakamoto's piano underlying the circuitry, Vrioon could conceivably be said to have a presence. The romantic Sakamoto dwells heavily on his feelings, soaking the music in melodrama wherever possible, and rarely alters the predominant tone of mumpish solemnity. Thus noto's electronics take on a new purpose, adding enterprise to otherwise inward-looking compositions. Symbiosis in action.

The album has six tracks, with the shortest around five minutes and the longest 13. "uoon I" is the definitive piece, organized around Sakamoto's sparsely laid out melody and including noto's high-pitched S-O-S signals. A rhythmic murmur, like a washing machine in the other room, is the only element that fills the entire space of the song. Periodically the S-O-S becomes frantic for a few seconds, and the murmur echoes, but the result is simply another layer rather than an increase in total intensity.

"uoon I" floats seamlessly into "uoon 2," which extracts two piano notes from the original melody and repeats them over and over along with the murmur. Melody returns on "duoon," and "noon." The latter track has a strange structure: the piano stops in the middle of the song, leaving the electronics alone. Though it would have been hard to pick out back when the piano was playing, the rhythm by now has entered a definite groove. Played on fast-forward, this becomes even more obvious.

Go back and play the whole track that way, and you hear that the rhythm was in a sense tight all along – just too extended in space to be perceptible as such. That imperceptibility may be the point of Vrioon, an album on which shapes take so long to come together that a listener can't possibly process their contours in real time. And it's really pretty besides.

Brad Mehldau Trio - Largo



Brad Mehldau (born August 23, 1970) is an American jazz pianist. Besides leading his own group, the Brad Mehldau Trio, he has performed with multitudes of renowned artists, including Pat Metheny, Wayne Shorter, Joshua Redman, Christian McBride, Michael Brecker, Chris Potter, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jimmy Cobb, and classical vocalists Renee Fleming and Anne Sofie von Otter


Biography
Mehldau was born Bradford Alexander Mehldau in 1970 in Jacksonville, Florida.[2] His family moved to Connecticut where Mehldau spent most of his childhood and high school. While a sophomore in high school, he won Berklee College's Best All-Around Musician Award. Mehldau moved to New York in 1988 to study jazz at The New School, studying under Fred Hersch, Junior Mance and Kenny Werner, and also playing with Jimmy Cobb.[citation needed] He went on to play as sideman with a variety of musicians, most importantly with the Joshua Redman quartet, before forming his own trio in 1994, with bassist Larry Grenadier and drummer Jorge Rossy, and later Jeff Ballard, who succeeded Rossy in 2005. In addition to his trio work, Mehldau collaborated with guitarist Pat Metheny, releasing two albums with him and embarking on a worldwide tour along with Grenadier and Ballard.

Recording primarily for Nonesuch Records, Mehldau plays original compositions, jazz standards and jazz arrangements of popular music, especially rock music. With his trio, he has recorded arrangements of the music of Nick Drake, The Beatles, Radiohead and Paul Simon among others, and recorded the Soundgarden's "Black Hole Sun" on his 2006 album, Live. Mehldau has also expressed an interest in and knowledge of philosophy, in particular of music and art. He has played and recorded solo and with co-leaders Peter Bernstein, Mark Turner, Charlie Haden, Charles Lloyd, Pat Metheny and others. In 2004, Mehldau toured with Kurt Rosenwinkel and Joshua Redman.

He cites as influences Larry Goldings, Kevin Hays, Peter Bernstein, Mark Turner, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Jesse Davis, David Sanchez and the other members of his own trio.[3] His classical training shows, and he often plays a separate melody with each hand in unusual rhythmic meters. For example, he plays his arrangement of Jerome Kern's standard "All the Things You Are" on Art of the Trio, Vol. IV in A major (a half-step up from the original key, A-flat major) played in 7/4 time. On Day Is Done, he also plays Paul Simon's "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover" in 7/4. Another of Mehldau's signature techniques is to create an ostinato in his right hand whilst developing a motivic idea in his left hand.[citation needed]

Mehldau cherishes Brazilian music, citing Milton Nascimento, Chico Buarque and Simone. In 2006 he appeared at the Auditório do Ibirapuera in Sao Paulo and declared: "I only met Simone's work last year and it was like meeting Sarah Vaughan or Dinah Washington. She has a strong identity and sings with a lot of passion and grace".[
