I didn't do the lacquer mastering on either one of those records, they were cut flat from my 44/16 CD master. I believe Ken Perry did the cut.

However, your information that the vinyl record was cut from 44/16 CD master is shocking to me. I thought that the vinyl would have been cut from the analog tape masters without the digital limiting applied on the CD master. And that it's cut from the 44/16 instead of 48/24, wow. I am shocked.

But still, the record sounds really great!

Yep. Like you stated, a lot of the sound is the cutting electronics...and the playback system. I cut about 10 sides a week, most of them from a 16/44.1 source.

χμ...βέβαια δέν καταλαβαίνω γιατί η δειγματοληψία των 44100 δέν εξάγει ένα τέλειο ημίτονο των 10khz ενώ ας πούμε η δειγμ. των 196 το εξάγει...:126:
θεωρητικά το ημίτονο έπρεπε να είναι το ίδιο.πρακτικά εισάγεται μέσα η παραμόρφωση και οι αρμονικές της αλυσίδας.όμως και πάλι το αποτέλεσμα πρέπει να είναι το ίδιο.

-I think any audiophile worth his $3000 power cord should be able to tell if the LP was sourced from digital.

-Absolutely. Since the vinyl is known to be the ultimate format in resolution, with the right equipment you should be able to hear the ramps of a 16-bit word.

So I ask -
"And where is the digital master tape, what does it look like?"
"I have no idea".
"What do U mean...? What did they send U to cut it from?"
"Nothing".
I get confused -
"Wait...what are U cutting it from?"
And he points to the analogue reel of reddish Agfa tape on the Studer machine that has just stopped playing.
"Oh... So they send an analogue copy? Strange, I read it was DDD!"
"No, they don't send anything. The record company just sends us a CD".
I get MORE confused -
"And where do U get the analogue master from??"
He smiles and points to a "midi series", plasticky smaller format 80's frankly crappy Sony CD player, and says
"I just copy it to tape - I have this reel of tape that I use for this purpose, then I record another CD over it when I get one like this...And of course I have an adapter from chinch to cannon !". (RCA to XLR plugs, as they called them over there)
"And what about the cover artwork"?
"Oh that - they just make the one on the CD bigger in the printing. I don't know how, I'm not in printing. It comes out a bit blurry, but it's OK".
I am quite shocked by the crudeness of this... so I ask
"But isn't it like they really CARE about the DDD recording, or the record cover, don't they demand it's done from an original master?"
"No, I told U - they just send over a CD!"
Then he realizes that by "they" I probably meant the artist/producer/band that I am a fan of and that are actually famed for their audio & visual work quality, and not just the local record company, and adds
"Oh..they? Well they will never come here and find out, will they?"
and grins.


True story.

(Please don't tell the 3000 eur/dollar cable audiophile guy who just bought a super-rare Easter European vinyl copy on eBay and is digging the...warmth! )

-The vinyl master may be sourced from a 24-bit version of the CD master. (However, the high noise content of vinyl generally makes this a meaningless distinction.)

-The vinyl master may be sourced from a higher-sampling-rate version of the CD master. (However, the demonstrated inaudibility of frequencies above 20khz makes this a meaningless distinction.)

-Finally, the vinyl master might be sourced from a master with less dynamic range compression or limiting than the CD master. This is the only distinction between a vinyl an CD master that is meaningful - in the sense that information exists on the vinyl master, in terms of reduced compression, that does not exist on the CD master.

Είναι: "αφού εγώ πληρώνω αναλογικά,(και βάλε), ακούω αναλογικά είτε το θέλετε είτε όχι", και από ψηφιακό βινύλιο 135.

το μόνο πραγματικά "audiophile" υλικό, είναι το 24/192 που καταλήγουν οι μαστεράδες (ή άντε, το 24/96 - εξαρτάται από το στούντιο υποθέτω, καθώς και από τον εξοπλισμό του).

αυτό το υλικό, στη συνέχεια περνά τα "χίλια μύρια κύματα" εξευτελισμού, μέχρι να φτάσει στα χέρια μας ή σαν LP ή σαν CD.

μέχρι να φτάσουν στο σημείο να μας μοιράζουν το αρχικό αυτό υλικό σε 24/192 (που κάλλιστα θα μπορούσε να αποθηκεύεται σε ένα usb stick και να πωλείται στα ράφια του "δισκάδικου" ή να το κάνεις download από το site του "δισκάδικου") η προσωπική μου άποψη είναι πως μας έχουν γραμμένους εκεί που δε πιάνει μελάνι.

φυσικά, για την ουσιαστική πλειοψηφία του καταναλωτικού κοινού, που είναι πλήρως ικανοποιημένο από την mp3 έκδοση του εν λόγω υλικού στο i-phone τους (ενώ ούτε καν σκέφτονται να δώσουν πάνω από 300 ευρώ για ηχοσύστημα στο σπίτι τους), πολύ καλά κάνουν.

αλλά για εμάς τους 5-10 βλαμμένους που τα έχουμε "σκάσει", ε, μας έχουν παντελώς χεσμένους, τζάμπα κι άδικα, μας ταίζουν σανό (σανός = πχ 180 γραμμαρίων υλικό για σαγιονάρες, SACD, 24bitCD κ λοιπές μπούρδες).

η μόνη ελπίδα στον ορίζοντα για υλικό πραγματικά υψηλής ποιότητας, είναι το Blue Ray master audio ή κάπως έτσι, αλλά και πάλι, αν το δεις λίγο πιο "αυστηρά" είναι άλλη μια απάτη, σε ένα μέσο ακριβό, για να παραμένει υψηλά τιμολογιακά η "ποιότητα" και να κρέμεται η αναπαραγωγή από μηχανισμούς ανάγνωσης, σφάλματα κλπ κλπ κλπ και να τα "βγάζουν" κ οι βιομηχανίες παραγωγής μηχανημάτων αναπαραγωγής των εν λόγω μέσων.

η μόνη φυσιολογική λύση, που να μην είναι απάτη, με την υπάρχουσα τεχνολογία και χωρίς φρου φρου κι αρώματα, επαναλαμβάνω, είναι είτε σε usb stick είτε με download.

αν κάποιοι ανάμεσα σε αυτούς που παράγουν τη μουσική που φτάνει στο καταναλωτικό κοινό έχουν στο μυαλό τους τον "αναλογικό" ήχο, για τα προτερήματα που μπορεί να έχει, αν δε θέλουν να εξαπατούν τον κοσμάκη που πληρώνει μια περιουσία σε μηχανήματα αναπαραγωγής βινυλίου, θα έπρεπε να χρησιμοποιούν μόνο αναλογικά μηχανήματα παντού, χωρίς κανένα στάδιο ψηφιοποίησης και ξανα-μανα αναλογικοποίησης, και να κόβουν δίσκους βινυλίου υψηλότερων στροφών από τις 33, κι αν χρειάζεται, ένας δίσκος του Μικρούτσικου να μοιράζεται σε 10 βινύλια, να μοιράζεται. να μη τα συμπιέζουν όλα στις 2 πλευρές ενός δίσκου για λόγους "κόστους". Να έχει η κάθε πλευρά 5-10' διάρκεια.

τα υπόλοιπα που λέγονται και ακούγονται, προσωπικά με αφήνουν εντελώς αδιάφορο, είναι για να περνάει η ώρα.

αυτά κατά την πολύ ταπεινή, αλλά εντελώς απόλυτη άποψή μου.
