Hugh Jackman says X-Men: Days of Future Past will 'Blow People Away'

Next summer will see the most ambitious of all the X-Men movies come to life in the form of X-Men: Days of Future Past. The film will combine the original cast with the roster from 2011's X-Men: First Class into one monster mutant epic, and speaking with Access Hollywood, star Hugh Jackman says the film has so much in it that it feels like multiple movies, and he has faith it'll be the best X-Men movie in the series.

"I know, having sat at Comic-Con on that panel with that extraordinary cast, I keep saying it's like two movies in one, but with the size of it it's really three in one. It really is going to blow people away because of the story. Bryan Singer, I think, is going to become the first director to make increasingly better movies in a franchise, I'm not sure if there's anyone else that's done it."

Hugh Jackman teases a throw down with Magneto in X-Men: Days of Future Past

One of the things fans were looking forward to with Bryan Singer's original X-Men was a big screen confrontation between Magneto and Wolverine. Though we've seen it a few times in the series since then, there's a unique opportunity for Hugh Jackman in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past to take on a different Magneto with Michael Fassbender in the role.

Speaking with The Daily Beast, Jackman was asked if the characters would have a fight scene, prompting this tease:

"It’s fair to say we don’t get on that well. I get sent back to the past and he has no idea who I am, but you can imagine Wolverine has a bit of fun with that."

We do know that Magneto will have a bit of a tussle with Beast at some point in the film, as seen in these set photos, and these, but we all want to see Wolverine and Magneto go at it again.

Peter Dinklage talks Bolivar Trask in X-Men: Days of Future Past

When it was announced a few months back that "Game of Thrones" star Peter Dinklage would be playing Bolivar Trask in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past we all started referring to him as the film's villain, but that's not how Dinklage sees it, at least in his portrayal.

“I didn’t want to play the villain,” Dinklage told EW. “He’s a man of science. He’s a man of invention. He actually sees what he’s doing as a good thing — [his ambition is] definitely blind and he’s quite arrogant. He’s strove all his life for a certain respect and attention.”

Not only will Trask be taking on the "mutant threat," but he'll have some big human opponents in the movie as well.

"He’s up against Richard Nixon,” Dinklage said. “He’s got some hurdles.”

James McAvoy says Days of Future Past is potentially 'most epic X-Men' movie yet'

Warning: Some potential spoilers for X-Men: Days of Future Past...

We're just under eight months away from the release of X-Men: Days of Future Past and it's shaping up to be the most ambitious X-Men film ever released. This kind of hyperbole isn't lost on the cast as James McAvoy himself thinks it's got a lot of potential.

"There’s an army of brilliant actors in that film," he said in an interview with IGN. "Bryan Singer is back at the helm. Potentially it’s going to be the biggest, most epic X-Men they’'ve ever had. I think it’s the second biggest production Fox have ever embarked upon, behind Avatar. So they'’re definitely going for it."

McAvoy also spoke about working with the cast, including a scene he shares with Patrick Stewart as the older Charles Xavier.

"His last day was my first day and that was it. Then we were done. But we did crossover and we do get a scene together. Getting to work with Hugh [Jackman] – who I christened Hugo Boss – was great....Getting to work with Michael [Fassbender] again was great. I spent a hell of a lot of time with Nick [Nicholas Hoult]. Weirdly the people that I spent the most time with acting-wise was not Michael this time, it was Hugh and Nick. And whilst I bemoaned the loss of my buddy Michael, it was more than made up for by the fact that Hugh and Nick are such amazing people."

Evan Peters describes Quicksilver's look in X-Men: Days of Future Past

Ever since it was revealed back in May that both Bryan Singer's X-Men: Days of Future Past and Joss Whedon's Avengers: Age of Ultron are to feature dueling versions of Marvel Comics' Pietro Maximoff, aka Quicksilver, fans have been wondering exactly what approach each film will take with the character. Today, io9 has an update straight from the former's Evan Peters, who will be playing the Quicksilver role in the May 23, 2014 release.

"Yes," Peters says when asked if he's going to be seen on the big screen with the silver hair of his comic book alter ego, "Yeah. Yeah, it's cool."

Peters goes on to say that Quicksilver will, at least in part, be dressed in civilian clothing, including 1970's jeans and "a pretty sweet jacket". He also spoke a bit about Singer's innovative approach to capturing Quicksilver's super-speed on film.

"It's quite a big room," he says of the stage designed to film in slow-motion. "It's super, super, super, super slomo. You can see raindrops frozen in the air. Stuff like that. It's amazing how that camera works... You don't do anything differently other than try to keep your eyes open in the bright light. And try to make it look cool, I guess."

Jennifer Lawrence talks Mystique's place in X-Men: Days of Future Past

Following the end of 2011's X-Men: First Class, Mystique (played by Jennifer Lawrence) was aligned with Magneto, setting up their future with the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. But where will she be at the start of the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past? Not together, apparently. Speaking with IGN, Jennifer Lawrence mentioned where we find Mystique at the start of the film.

"We find Raven, she's split off from Eric and Charles and she's kind of her own agent. She has one mission of trying to assassinate somebody and it will be her first kill basically, and because we've seen her in the future and what she becomes and this is kind of a turning point for her."

James McAvoy talks X-Men: Days of Future Past, confirms he'll play Xavier again

Director Bryan Singer surprised us all last week when he announced that the next "X-Men" movie, titled X-Men: Apocalypse, would be hitting theaters in 2016. Since then, there's been a flurry of rumors about how the film connects to the upcoming "Days of Future Past," what characters will be appearing, and who will be Apocalypse. Those all remain conjecture, except for the "Apocalypse is not an alien" debunking that Singer tweeted earlier this week. The lack of information about the sequel isn't just limited to the fan community either, as actor James McAvoy says he found out about the project along with everyone else.

"I only heard about it this morning!" McAvoy said in an interview with Red Carpet News TV (via CBM), and though he didn't confirm a return for "Apocalypse," he did mention he is contracted for a third appearance as Charles Xavier.

McAvoy also spoke about the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, calling it "The biggest X-Men film yet, without a doubt."

"The personal pleasure for me in 'First Class' was presenting a Charles Xavier to the fans, but also a new audience, who's very different from the Charles that you expected. But he was still very sort of 'Everything's going good!' In the second movie I get to present another version of Charles Xavier who's still very different from the Charles that used to exist, but he's also remarkably different from the Charles in 'First Class' as well. So what's great is that even though it's a sequel, even though it's a franchise, I keep getting to reinvent Charles Xavier and that's amazing. I've got to do it twice now, because the Charles in this film is unrecognizable from the Charles in the last film as well unrecognizable from the Charles played by Patrick Stewart, who I then get to face up to. That's sort of theatrical almost, it's like we're playing a game with the audience saying 'Look at the many faces of Charles-Patrick-Stewart-Xavier-McAvoy. It's really good fun."

Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart on X-Men: Days of Future Past

Next summer's X-Men: Days of Future Past will see the old and new casts of the franchise's films coming together for one giant mutant epic, sometimes with the pairs crossing over. Speaking with The Wall Street Journal, stars Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart talked about working with their "younger selves" on the film and whether they all worked together to have four performances that synced up.

"Nope. It's up to them to sync with us," McKellen joked with Stewart adding, "We came first."

McKellen was then asked if he meets up with Michael Fassbender as Magneto in the film, as the trailer revealed the two Xaviers will share at least one moment.

"No, I don't, I just stay by myself and I never meet my younger self."

Speaking about his scene with James McAvoy as the young Charles Xavier, Patrick Stewart had this to say, "There was a certain happy charm about it, in that, when we shot that scene, it was James' first day of work and it was my last day. So I was saying goodbye to X-Men and he was saying hello. James has seen everything I have done, I've seen everything he has done. He is illustrating a time in Charles Xavier's life which was very different from the time that I've been inhabiting in the previous three movies, and we just let that play out. I think we've both been looking forward to doing that scene immensely."

McKellen further confirmed that not only do the two Magnetos not share screentime, but he and Fassbender never discussed playing the two roles in a similar manner to each other.

"No, No, I think he made it clear that he wanted to be his own Magneto and that suits the nature of the story and his part in it. And, Bryan Singer clearly doesn't mind that we're, Fassbender and I, don't look much like each other, although they have put out a poster where our faces are blended and you do a double take and think, ooh, my goodness, I didn't know I was that good looking and then realize the bit that's good looking is not me but Fassbender."

The subject then switched to the recently announced X-Men: Apocalypse, with the pair asked if they're returning for that film.

"Well I don't know if Ian knows anything about this, but I know nothing about it. Another X-Men movie has been announced and I said yes, yes, yes, it opens in May and they say no, no, no. Not that one, the one after." Stewart said before asking McKellen, "Has anybody called you, are you keeping something from me?"

"No, no. No, I know nothing about it," McKellen said. "Which probably means we're not in it."

Stewart added, "And then they'll find they need us after all, if we're lucky."

Evan Jonigkeit to play young version of Toad in X-Men: Days of Future Past

Just when you thought there might not be enough mutants in the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past, another one pops up. In an interview with MTV, actor Evan Jonigkeit revealed that he will be playing a younger version of Toad in the upcoming sequel. When asked how he got ready for the film, Jongkeit replied:

"I read a lot of the comic books. I found out the storyline of my character, who is Toad. X-Men fans will know that Ray Park played him in the first movie, so it's a generation story of how he came to be. It's really cool."

Though he wouldn't reveal his character's look for the film, Jonigkeit says that it's different from how the character appearaed in the first film saying: "The aesthetics of the character are much different, and I'm not really allowed to say a whole lot more than that."

When asked specifically about aesthetic changes, he added: "It's darker. I would say it's a darker tone."

Singer and Kinberg talk Days of Future Past, Tease X-Men: Apocalypse

Because the 25 covers and four official stills weren't enough, Empire sat down with director Bryan Singer and screenwriter Simon Kinberg to discuss some of the burning questions that fans have about the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past. One of the topics of discussion? How does Wolverine have metal claws in the future sequences, given the ending of 2013's The Wolverine?

Without totally revealing the answer, Singer surmised that Magneto could "reconstitute the adamantium claws... [Wolverine] has a different relationship with Magneto, and perhaps Magneto could forge them."

Another question many fans have been asking is why Rogue was given an Empire cover even though it was announced that she would no longer be in the film, or will she be?

"It was one real sequence in the movie," Kinberg said. "We felt like it was taking tension out of the main story drive."

"It does not mean that we won't see her in the film," Singer adds. "Also, I hope to make the sequence available on the DVD as she was quite wonderful in it. She is an important part of the X-Men family. I 'm very pleased she will remain as one of Empire's anniversary covers."

And finally, in the latest issue of the magazine, the pair teased the upcoming follow-up film X-Men: Apocalypse.

"One thing that interests me is the notion of ancient mutants," Singer says. "What would people thousands of years ago, without the benefit of science, think mutants were? And more importantly, what would mutants thousands of years ago think they were? Gods? Titans? Angels? Demons? And if such mutants did exist thousands of years ago, what became of them? Did one survive?"

"Age of Apocalypse was one of my favorite stories," Kinberg added. "We like the stakes of it, and it feels like a story that could impact a lot of our favorite characters in big, dramatic ways. We feel it's a very different story from Days of Future Past. For starters, it's a very different villain, and the characters will be in very different places emotionally."

Singer noted that the film, slated for release May 27, 2016, is "more of a First Class sequel" and "It'll take place some time after this movie. What happens in this movie brings about what'll happen in that movie."

The director also spoke about those rumors that a "Days if Future Past" post-credit scene would see Magneto possessed by an alien, leading to him becoming Apocalypse. As if that didn't sound silly enough, Singer says they're not true.

"That's not the case, and nor will that particular thing be in the film. People were concerned we were making Apocalypse an alien. It's odd. I don't know where that came from.”

The latest issue of Empire also revealed some brand new images from the upcoming sequel, which we've included for you below.
